Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy 1st Press Meet as Kerala CM Part 1 on 2001 May 18
Veteran Congress leader Oommen Chandy was on Wednesday sworn in as the 21st chief minister of Kerala along with six ministers.

സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് പുതിയ മന്ത്രിസഭ സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞ ചെയ്ത് അധികാരമേറ്റു. രാജ്ഭവനില്‍ നടന്ന സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞാചടങ്ങില്‍ മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി ഉമ്മന്‍ചാണ്ടിയും ആറ് മന്ത്രിമാരും സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞ ചെയ്ത് അധികാരമേറ്റു. ഗവര്‍ണര്‍ ആര്‍.എസ്.ഗവായ് സത്യവാചകം ചൊല്ലിക്കൊടുത്തു. പി.കെ.കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടി, കെ.എം.മാണി, കെ.പി.മോഹനന്‍, റ്റി.എം.ജേക്കബ്, കെ.ബി.ഗണേഷ്കുമാര്‍, ഷിബുബേബിജോണ്‍ എന്നിവരാണ് മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിക്കൊപ്പം സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞ ചെയ്ത മന്ത്രിമാര്‍. മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയും മറ്റ് മന്ത്രിമാരും ദൈവനാമത്തിലും ഷിബുബേബിജോണ്‍ ദൃഢപ്രതിജ്ഞയുമാണ് എടുത്തത്. കൃത്യം രണ്ടുമണിക്ക് തുടങ്ങിയ സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞാചടങ്ങ് അരമണിക്കൂറോളം നീണ്ടുനിന്നു. രാജ്ഭവന്‍ അങ്കണത്തില്‍ നടന്ന ചടങ്ങില്‍ കേന്ദ്രമന്ത്രിമാര്‍, എം.പി.മാര്‍, എം.എല്‍.എമാര്‍, മുന്‍മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി വി.എസ്.അച്യുതാനന്ദന്‍, മുന്‍മന്ത്രിമാര്‍, വിവിധ രാഷ്ട്രീയകക്ഷി നേതാക്കള്‍, സാമൂഹിക സാംസ്കാരികരംഗത്തെ പ്രമുഖര്‍, സംസ്ഥാനത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗത്തു നിന്നെത്തിയ പ്രവര്‍ത്തകര്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തു. 





In his first press conference after taking over as Chief Minister, Chandy said the Cabinet has decided to bring down petrol prices by one rupee twenty two paise in the state by forgoing the tax component due to the state from the recent hike.  This is the first decision of the new government. The decision will reduce petrol prices by Rs 1.22 paise per litre.

Another major decision that would cause additional burden on the state exchequer was an increase in the amount of compensation to the kin of the endosulfan pesticide victims from Rs50, 000 to Rs100, 000.  Shri. Oommen Chandy said that the weaker sections of the society will be given special consideration while ensuring justice.  Providing protection to the life and property of the people would be the first priority of the government.

Many of the modern treatments were not affordable to a large number of people.  The Chief Minister also said that the ministry will take special measures to bring down the prices of essential commodities and ensure healthcare benefits to all. The government will make this available to all sections of society by introducing an insurance scheme.
The government will create infrastructure to make Kerala a hub for higher education said by Chief Minister Ooommen Chandy. The chief minister said that the new UDF government would make Kerala investor-friendly. The investments would be channeled to create employments and generate wealth to the people.

Oommen Chandy's First Day as 21st Chief Minister of Kerala

Shri Oommen Chandy, 67 year old, elected for the 10th consecutive time from Puthupally Constituency in Kottayam District, assumed office as Kerala's 21st chief minister on Wednesday. He takes over from Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) stalwart V.S. Achuthanandan, who resigned as Chief Minister, last on Saturday.

In the Kerala assembly elections, the United Democratic Front (UDF) won by 72 seats, while the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) bagged 68 seats.

Senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy was sworn in as Kerala's 21st Chief Minister on Wednesday. Shri. Oommen Chandy and six other ministers were take over the charges. Governor R.S. Gavai administered him the oath, in the presence of several political personalities, including senior Opposition leaders. Indian Union Muslim League leader P.K. Kunhalikutty, Kerala Congress (M) leader K.M. Mani, Socialist Janata (Democratic) leader K.P. Mohanan, Kerala Congress (Jacob) leader T.M. Jacob, Kerala Congress (B) leader K.B. Ganesh Kumar and Revolutionary Socialist Party (Baby John) leader Shibu Baby John were took their oath. All Ministers took their oaths in the name of God, except Mr. Baby John who took the solemn oath.
