IPL 2011 Winner Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings won the IPL 2011 on 28/05/201. Murali Vijay 95 runs helped his team to retain the IPL Trophy. Vijay along with Michael Hussey posted 159 runs for the first wicket, which the best ever partnership in IPL history. Vijay overcame the challenge posed by the opposition bowlers, the weather and his own form that had been playing hide-and-seek with him for most of the tournament. A high score of 205 runs which seemed a mountain for Banagalore Royal Challengers.

Salim Kumar was won the best actor award of the Kerala State Film Award 2011 (2010 released films) for his stunning performance in 'Adaminte Makan Abu' (Abu, son of Adam) which was also recently got the National Award for Best Actor and Best Film.
The film tells the story of an aged couple who longs to go to Mecca to perform the holy Hajj. Abu, the protagonist played by Salim Kumar, sells Athar and copies of the Qur’an for a living, by which the couple dreams of Hajj. His wife, played by famous actress Zarina Wahab, breeds cattle and hens, and helps her husband realize their dream. Their only son in Dubai is also of no help to the couple. Abu then decides to sell the huge tree in front of his house, but after cutting the tree only he comes to know it is not a good (sellable) tree. Many including travel agencies get ready to help him, but Abu is not ready to go for Hajj with borrowed money. At last when he is sure that he cannot fulfill his dream, Abu reaches another conclusion – that tree too has life, and several lives must have died when he cut the tree in front of his house. And that may be one of the reasons for his not being able to go for the Hajj.
Kavya Madhavan was chosen as the best actress award for her role in 'Gaddama'.

Kavya Madhavan was chosen as the best actress award for her role in 'Gaddama'.Gaddama is based on the story by K U Iqbal. The script for the movie is by Kamal and K Gireesh Kumar. Gaddama is produced by P V Pradeep under the banner Anitha Productions. The music for Gaddama is by Bennett-Veetrag. Gaddama is the name used to address domestic workers who come from other countries in Arabian countries. Kerala has a large number of women working as domestic workers in Gulf countries. Kavya Madhavan will play the role of a Gaddama in this movie.
Shyamaprasad got the Best Director award for his film 'Electra'.
The film is based on the Greek play Electra, which is about a Hellenic princess and her obsessive love for her father. It is a psycho-sensual drama heavily charged with primal energy. The plot revolves around the concept of Electra complex that is a daughter's psychosexual competition with her mother for her father's affection. A rueful journey into the bruised familial bonds of an aristocratic household in Central Kerala, the film explores the texture of desire and loss.Shyamaprasad got the Best Director award for his film 'Electra'.

58th National Film Awards 2010 - South Indian Films Outshine
The 58th National Film Awards 2010 announced on Thursday. The National Award for best actor will be shared by Malayalee Actor Salim Kumar for his work in Adaminde Makan Abu, and Tamil cinema's Dhanush Aadukalam respectively
Malayalam film Adaminte Makan Abu directed by Salim Ahmed won the 58th National Award for Best Feature Film. The 58th National Film Awards for the year 2010 are being announced at a press conference in New Delhi.
Kamod Karade won best audiography location sound recordist, Debajit Changmai was named best re-recordist of the final mixed track.
Salman Khan starrer blockbuster movie ‘Dabangg’ bagged the National Awards for ‘Wholesome entertainer movie of the Year’.
Do Dooni Chaar directed by Habib Faisal was declared the Best Hindi Film. Abhinav Kashyap’s Dabangg won the award for Popular film providing wholesome entertainment.
Marathi actress Mitalee Jagtap Paradhar and Tamil cinema's Saranya won the National Award for best actress for their performances in the movies "Baboo Band Baaja" and "Thenmerku Paruvakkaatru" respectively.
The movie ‘Adaminte Makan Abu’ was adjudged best Feature Film.
Tamil moviemaker Veerimaran was named best director at the 58th National Film Awards.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy 1st Press Meet as Kerala CM Part 1 on 2001 May 18
Veteran Congress leader Oommen Chandy was on Wednesday sworn in as the 21st chief minister of Kerala along with six ministers.
In his first press conference after taking over as Chief Minister, Chandy said the Cabinet has decided to bring down petrol prices by one rupee twenty two paise in the state by forgoing the tax component due to the state from the recent hike. This is the first decision of the new government. The decision will reduce petrol prices by Rs 1.22 paise per litre.

സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് പുതിയ മന്ത്രിസഭ സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞ ചെയ്ത് അധികാരമേറ്റു. രാജ്ഭവനില് നടന്ന സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞാചടങ്ങില് മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി ഉമ്മന്ചാണ്ടിയും ആറ് മന്ത്രിമാരും സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞ ചെയ്ത് അധികാരമേറ്റു. ഗവര്ണര് ആര്.എസ്.ഗവായ് സത്യവാചകം ചൊല്ലിക്കൊടുത്തു. പി.കെ.കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടി, കെ.എം.മാണി, കെ.പി.മോഹനന്, റ്റി.എം.ജേക്കബ്, കെ.ബി.ഗണേഷ്കുമാര്, ഷിബുബേബിജോണ് എന്നിവരാണ് മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിക്കൊപ്പം സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞ ചെയ്ത മന്ത്രിമാര്. മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയും മറ്റ് മന്ത്രിമാരും ദൈവനാമത്തിലും ഷിബുബേബിജോണ് ദൃഢപ്രതിജ്ഞയുമാണ് എടുത്തത്. കൃത്യം രണ്ടുമണിക്ക് തുടങ്ങിയ സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞാചടങ്ങ് അരമണിക്കൂറോളം നീണ്ടുനിന്നു. രാജ്ഭവന് അങ്കണത്തില് നടന്ന ചടങ്ങില് കേന്ദ്രമന്ത്രിമാര്, എം.പി.മാര്, എം.എല്.എമാര്, മുന്മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി വി.എസ്.അച്യുതാനന്ദന്, മുന്മന്ത്രിമാര്, വിവിധ രാഷ്ട്രീയകക്ഷി നേതാക്കള്, സാമൂഹിക സാംസ്കാരികരംഗത്തെ പ്രമുഖര്, സംസ്ഥാനത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗത്തു നിന്നെത്തിയ പ്രവര്ത്തകര് പങ്കെടുത്തു. |
In his first press conference after taking over as Chief Minister, Chandy said the Cabinet has decided to bring down petrol prices by one rupee twenty two paise in the state by forgoing the tax component due to the state from the recent hike. This is the first decision of the new government. The decision will reduce petrol prices by Rs 1.22 paise per litre.

Another major decision that would cause additional burden on the state exchequer was an increase in the amount of compensation to the kin of the endosulfan pesticide victims from Rs50, 000 to Rs100, 000. Shri. Oommen Chandy said that the weaker sections of the society will be given special consideration while ensuring justice. Providing protection to the life and property of the people would be the first priority of the government.

Many of the modern treatments were not affordable to a large number of people. The Chief Minister also said that the ministry will take special measures to bring down the prices of essential commodities and ensure healthcare benefits to all. The government will make this available to all sections of society by introducing an insurance scheme.
The government will create infrastructure to make Kerala a hub for higher education said by Chief Minister Ooommen Chandy. The chief minister said that the new UDF government would make Kerala investor-friendly. The investments would be channeled to create employments and generate wealth to the people.

Shri Oommen Chandy, 67 year old, elected for the 10th consecutive time from Puthupally Constituency in Kottayam District, assumed office as Kerala's 21st chief minister on Wednesday. He takes over from Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) stalwart V.S. Achuthanandan, who resigned as Chief Minister, last on Saturday.
In the Kerala assembly elections, the United Democratic Front (UDF) won by 72 seats, while the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) bagged 68 seats.

Senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy was sworn in as Kerala's 21st Chief Minister on Wednesday. Shri. Oommen Chandy and six other ministers were take over the charges. Governor R.S. Gavai administered him the oath, in the presence of several political personalities, including senior Opposition leaders. Indian Union Muslim League leader P.K. Kunhalikutty, Kerala Congress (M) leader K.M. Mani, Socialist Janata (Democratic) leader K.P. Mohanan, Kerala Congress (Jacob) leader T.M. Jacob, Kerala Congress (B) leader K.B. Ganesh Kumar and Revolutionary Socialist Party (Baby John) leader Shibu Baby John were took their oath. All Ministers took their oaths in the name of God, except Mr. Baby John who took the solemn oath.

| No politician or senior officer ever goes to jail despite huge evidence because Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) and CBI directly come under the government. Before starting investigation or initiating prosecution in any case, they have to take permission from the same bosses, against whom the case has to be investigated. |
| No corrupt officer is dismissed from the job because Central Vigilance Commission, which is supposed to dismiss corrupt officers, is only an advisory body. Whenever it advises government to dismiss any senior corrupt officer, its advice is never implemented. |
| No action is taken against corrupt judges because permission is required from the Chief Justice of India to even register an FIR against corrupt judges. |
| Nowhere to go - People expose corruption but no action is taken on their complaints. |
| There is so much corruption within CBI and vigilance departments. Their functioning is so secret that it encourages corruption within these agencies. |
| Weak and corrupt people are appointed as heads of anti-corruption agencies. |

| Lokpal at centre and Lokayukta at state level will be independent bodies. ACB and CBI will be merged into these bodies. They will have power to initiate investigations and prosecution against any officer or politician without needing anyone’s permission. Investigation should be completed within 1 year and trial to get over in next 1 year. Within two years, the corrupt should go to jail. |
| Lokpal and Lokayukta will have complete powers to order dismissal of a corrupt officer. CVC and all departmental vigilance will be merged into Lokpal and state vigilance will be merged into Lokayukta. |
| Lokpal & Lokayukta shall have powers to investigate and prosecute any judge without needing anyone’s permission. |
| Lokpal & Lokayukta will have to enquire into and hear every complaint. |
