Vijayakumar Proud of India in Olympics 2012 Vijayakumar Got Silver Medal in Shooting


Vijay Kumar, Indian Shooter, got silver medal in 25 meter Rapid Fire Pistol event at the Olympics held at London.  President Pranab Mukherjee congratulated Indian shooter Vijay Kumar for winning a silver medal in the 25m rapid fire pistol event of the Olympic Games in London. “By getting the second medal at the Olympics, Kumar has done the country proud,” a Rashtrapati Bhawan official quoted Mukherjee as saying referring to the bronze medal that Gagan Narang had won in the 10m sir rifle event.

Vijayakumar, 26-year-old army subedar from Himachal Pradesh found the target 30 times out of 40 attempts in the series comprising eight rounds of five shots each.


This was the country’s fourth medal in shooting in Olympic history. The other medal winners are Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (silver in 2004 Athens) , Abhinav Bindra (gold in 2008 Beijing) besides Narang.

Vijay Kumar, 26 year old Army man was riding high on confidence having won a gold in the Asian Shooting Championship in Doha this year in the Standard Pistol event. Vijay won three gold and one silver in the commonwealth games.


More so he had won two bronze at the Guangzhou Asian Games and two silver medals in the last three years at the World Cups. Vijay Kumar got 30 points and won silver medal, and Cuba got 34 points and won gold and China got Bronze medal. This is the second prize for India. The First Prize and this second one for Both the prizes are for shooting only.


Vijay Kumar is a sport shooter from India. He won the silver medal in the individual 25 metre rapid fire pistol event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He born on 19 August 1985 in Barsar village of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh and is presently a serving subedar in the Indian Army. Vijay Kumar is currently supported by the Olympic Gold Quest initiative. Earlier Kumar had failed to qualify for the men's 10 m air pistol finals after finishing 31st on 28 July 2012.

In the 2010 Commonwealth Games, held in the capital of his home country, he won 3 gold medals and one silver. Giving a stupendous performance, Vijay Kumar won 3 gold medals and a silver medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. The list of events are as follows:  

Gold Medal(s) 1. Men's 25 metre rapid fire pistol pairs : Gurpreet Singh and Vijay Kumar scored 1162 points in the 25m event setting a new Commonwealth games record on 7th October, 2010. 2. Men's 25 metre rapid fire pistol singles : He scored 787.5(583 in qualifying and 204.5 in the final round) to ensure the rapid fire pistol gold for the Indian team on 8th October, 2010. These scores bettered the previous Games Records of 581(qualifying) and 778.2(total) also set by him in the 2006 edition of the Commonwealth Games held at Melbourne, Australia. 3. Men's 25 metre centre fire pistol pairs : He and Harpreet Singh scored 586 and 573 respectively to give a total of 1159 points for the pairs event held on 9th October, 2010. —He won a silver medal in London Olympics 2012 in 25 metre rapid fire pistol event.

Silver Medal(s) 1. Men's 25 metre centre fire pistol singles : He scored a 574 to bag the silver medal at the event held on 10th October, 2010. The Gold was bagged by fellow Indian Harpreet Singh who scored 580.

Vijayakumar won a silver medal at the 2009 ISSF World Cup Beijing in rapid fire pistol, where he was defeated by Keith Sanderson by 0.1 points.

At the 2006 Commonwealth Games, he had won 2 gold medals, the individual 25 metre rapid fire pistol competition and the pairs competition in the same event together with Pemba Tamang. The same year, he won a bronze medal in the Asian Games despite actually finishing fourth because of a rule that prevented China from winning all three medals. The next year, he finished second at the Asian Championship in 25 metre center-fire pistol.
